Kyrgyz opposition to urge president to resign voluntarily (Part 2)

BISHKEK. Oct 6 (Interfax) - The coordination council of the Kyrgyz opposition political parties plans to invite President Sooronbai Jeenbekov to step down voluntarily, council member Temir Sariyev told Interfax.

"The head of state's legitimacy is not in question, he is a president elected by the people, but considering the current situation in Kyrgyzstan, he will be invited to tender his resignation voluntarily," Sariyev said.

"There is another way: the parliament may initiate the president's impeachment," he said.

The coordination council insists on the current parliament's gathering for an extraordinary session and deciding on forming a new government, Sariyev said.

"Once the government is formed, early parliamentary elections may be called in Kyrgyzstan, which should be held within the timeframe stipulated by the law, that is, 45 days after they were called," Sariyev said.

It was reported earlier on Tuesday that the parliament was to gather for an extraordinary session, but this has still not happened because of the absence of a quorum.
