BISHKEK. Oct 6 (Interfax) - The Kyrgyz Supreme Court has acquitted Sadyr Japarov, who was appointed the country's new prime minister on Tuesday, of taking a hostage in 2013, Kyrgyz media reported citing Japarov's attorney.
"The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan acquitted Sadyr Japarov today," Japarov's attorney Sharabedin Toktosunov said.
Opposition protests sparked in Kyrgyzstan on October 5 after the opposition refused to recognize presidential election results. Japarov's supporters released him from a penal colony, where he was serving his jail term, in the early hours of Tuesday. On Tuesday afternoon, Kyrgyz MPs gathered for an extraordinary meeting to vote for Japarov's appointment as Kyrgyz prime minister.
