Sanctions on Russia inevitable unless it clarifies circumstances of Navalny incident - German foreign minister

BERLIN. Oct 7 (Interfax) - The German leadership will insist on imposing sanctions on the persons who, as Berlin believes, are responsible for the incident involving Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny unless Russia clarifies its circumstances, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said.

"If #Russia does not clear up what happened in the #Navalny case and does not provide information, targeted and proportionate sanctions against those responsible on the Russian side will be inevitable," Maas said on Twitter on Wednesday.

The German government "will call for a common response from the EU and the OPCW," he said.
