Kyrgyz Interior Ministry to fiercely resist nationalists' attempts to destabilize country - Bishkek superintendent

BISHKEK. Oct 8 (Interfax) - The Kyrgyz Interior Ministry will fiercely crack down on attempts by looters and nationalists to destabilize the situation in the country, Bishkek superintendent Kursan Asanov said at a press briefing on Thursday.

"There is a group of people in the country who want to repeat the 2010 events in the south of Kyrgyzstan. We know who is calling for it, and we will resolutely suppress such actions. I personally will not allow this to happen," Asanov said.

The general situation in Bishkek is stabilizing, but the political situation remains tense, he said.

"There is a group of people who want a continuation. They divide people along ethnic lines. For instance, there are such facts in Osh. There is a group of people who are inciting looters. Stability is being maintained thanks to citizens, the media, and the police. There has been no looting. Clashes are erupting locally, but they are promptly put out," Asanov said.
