Tikhanovskaya's inclusion in Russian Interior Ministry's database of wanted fugitives to lead to her detention, extradition to Belarus in case of arrival in Russia - Duma deputy

MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - The inclusion of Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya in the Russian Interior Ministry's database of wanted fugitives means she will be detained and might be extradited to Belarus in the case of her arrival in Russia, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Security and Anti-Corruption Committee Nikolai Ryzhak told Interfax.

"We will be compelled to detain her [Tikhanovskaya] and to extradite her at the Belarussian request," Ryzhak said in response to the relevant question on Thursday.

If Belarus makes this request, "we will have to accommodate it," he said.

"Given the format of our relations with Belarus, we should also support each other in such delicate sphere as the juridical one," he said.

"This procedure is envisaged by regulations, and we have to comply with it," Ryzhak said.

It was reported earlier that Tikhanovskaya had been included in the database of wanted fugitives available on the Russian Interior Ministry's website.

The Russian Interior Ministry said, however, that Russia did not open any criminal cases against Tikhanovskaya.
