Armenians living in Russia not taking to streets over Karabakh because they don't want provocations - diaspora leader

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Russia's Armenians have no need to block roads or organize other protests over the war in Nagorno-Karabakh like Armenians are doing in the United States, France and other countries, Ara Abramyan, leader of the Union of Armenians in Russia, said.

"On the first day of this war, September 27, we created a special headquarters whose main tasks include prevention of provocations in Moscow and other cities of our country. We are explaining to members of the diaspora that there is no need to organize such rallies and protests," Abramyan told Interfax on Thursday.

"We believe that must not be done. Unlike the United States, France, the Russian administration is fully informed about the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and in the region in general. The administration of the Union is in constant contact with the Russian authorities," he said.

The administration of the Union of Armenians regularly meets with high-ranking Russian officials, he said. "We systematically inform the presidential administration, the Foreign Ministry, and other agencies in the online mode," he said.

Activists of the Armenian diaspora are now managing to keep the situation under control and to prevent provocations and clashes with Azerbaijanis living in Russia, he said.

"We will stay committed to this position and we hope for understanding from the Azerbaijani diaspora," Abramyan said.
