CSTO peacekeepers preparing for joint operation as part of exercise in Belarus

MINSK. Oct 13 (Interfax) - Preparations for a peacekeeping operation are being carried out in the course of the Unbreakable Brotherhood 2020 exercise of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)'s Collective Peacekeeping Forces in Belarus, the exercise headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The participants prepared for a joint operation at the Losvido range in Belarus today," the statement said.

"Units are practicing escorting a humanitarian convoy, deploying peacekeeping contingents to their zones of responsibility, protection, and deterring an attack," the statement quoted headquarters chief Vladimir Bely as saying.

"Also, the peacekeepers are practicing providing first aid to themselves and one another, are patrolling the area, are operating checkpoints, and are training to contain mass unrest," the statement said.

"A research group is working during this year's exercise; it's studying logistics and comprehensive support to operations of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces," Bely said.

"It's important for us to understand and improve certain aspects of our interaction. We will make proposals to the commands when the exercise is over," he said.

The Unbreakable Brotherhood 2020 exercise began at the Losvido range in Belarus on Monday. More than 900 servicemen are taking part in the training.
