BAKU. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Despite a fresh humanitarian ceasefire, the Armenian forces are trying to amount attacks in several sectors, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Sunday.
"Despite the announcement of a new ceasefire regime, the Armenian armed forces retained the situation tense during the night on the front, using mortars and artillery in different directions," the ministry said in a statement.
At 7:00 a.m., the enemy attempted to attack in the Aghdere, Fizuli, Hadrut, and Jabrayil sectors, it said.
"Units of the Azerbaijan Army are suppressing enemy attempts to attack," it said.
The Defense Ministry of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) earlier accused the Azerbaijani Armed Forces of launching an offensive in the southern sector of the frontline on Sunday morning.
"Despite the fact that a new ceasefire has been declared, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan have once again grossly violated this agreement. By 7:20 a.m., the enemy, using artillery weapons, had launched an offensive in the southern direction [Khoda Afarin water reservoir on the border with Iran] with the aim of taking advantageous positions. Both sides are sustaining losses. Fatalities and injuries have been reported," the NKR Defense Ministry said.
A new humanitarian truce in Nagorno-Karabakh agreed by Armenia and Azerbaijan entered into force at 00:01 a.m. local time on Sunday (11:01 p.m. Moscow time on Saturday).
