Armenian forces retreat in southern Karabakh - Azerbaijan

BAKU. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Fighting in the Karabakh conflict zone continued in the early hours of Wednesday with various intensity, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

As a result of Azerbaijani strikes, the Armenian troops retreated in the southern sector in the Jabrayil and Gubadli districts, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

"During the day on October 20 and on the night of October 21, the combat operations in the direction of Aghdere, Fizuli-Jabrayil, and Gubadli directions of the front continued with varying intensity. The enemy fired at our defensive positions using small arms, mortars, and howitzers," the report said.

"As a result of the operations carried out by the Azerbaijani Army, the defending units of the 18th motorized rifle division of the Armenian armed forces in the Jabrayil and Gubadli directions of the front were forced to withdraw, losing personnel and military vehicles," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

"Three artillery pieces, several mortars, and three vehicles with military personnel were destroyed in the fighting.Our troops control the operational situation along the entire front," the republic's Defense Ministry said.

Besides, according to Azerbaijan, the Armenian troops resumed an attack on the Tartar district on Wednesday morning.

"Since the morning hours the Armenian armed forces are shelling the Tartar city and the territory of the region using artillery pieces," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

Armenian Defense Ministry press secretary Shushan Stepanyan said on Tuesday the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had retreated from the territory of the Khudaferin Reservoir in southern Karabakh near the Iranian border, suffering losses.
