Ukraine expects Iran confirm arrest of 6 people involved in Boeing crash near Tehran

KYIV. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Ukraine should get within a week detailed information about the Iranian investigation of a criminal case into the downing of Flight PS752 of the Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) near Tehran on January 8, 2020, a statement posted on the website of the Ukrainian Prosecutor's General Office said.

The detailed information in particular includes documents proving the detention of six people who are suspected of downing the aircraft, said the statement posted after negotiations of Ukraine's Deputy Prosecutor General Gyunduz Mamedov in Tehran.

Iran also promised to send to Ukraine one of hard evidence before the end of October, it said. According to preliminary information, the issue is about the flight bag that a Ukrainian rescue group found shortly after the crash.

The parties also compared the list of documents that were sent as part of international legal assistance effort over the past 10 months. Starting from January 2020, Ukrainian prosecutors sent five international legal assistance requests, which got only generalized answers, while one of them, which dealt with the six suspects, was disregarded.

A UIA Boeing 737-800 performing Flight PS752 en route from Tehran to Kyiv crashed soon after takeoff from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport early in the morning of January 8. None of the 167 passengers and nine crewmembers on board survived.

Commander of the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Amir Ali Hajizadeh later claimed full responsibility for the Ukrainian plane crash.
