YEREVAN. Oct 22 (Interfax) - The Defense Army of the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic repelled all attacks of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on Wednesday, Armenian Defense Ministry spokesperson Artsrun Hovhannisyan said.
"Today, the enemy's sabotage groups tried to get to our positions in the central portion of the front; however, after powerful artillery shelling the attempt was thwarted, the enemy fled having sustained heavy losses. The southern [portion of the front] saw hostilities near the Aras River [on the border with Iran]. All enemy's attempts to move forward and attack were thwarted, the enemy was not able to move forward a single millimeter," Hovhannisyan said at a briefing.
Wednesday hostilities took place along the whole frontline, he said. "There also were attempts to attack in the north. They were thwarted, and considerable damage to hardware was inflicted. The enemy used aviation and a large number of sabotage groups. Battled have now continued," he said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Azerbaijani President Ilkham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan took control over 22 more communities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
