Azerbaijan claims Armenian missile strikes on Gabala and Kurdamir, Yerevan denies it

BAKU/YEREVAN. Oct 22 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani cities of Gabala, Siyazan, and Kurdamir came under missile attack from Armenian territory on Thursday, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said.

"On October 22, in the morning, the territory of Azerbaijan was exposed to ballistic missiles fired using the operational-tactical missile complexes from the territory of Armenia. The enemy fired three missiles in the direction of the Siyazan region at about 7:00 a.m. [local time], two missiles in the direction of the Gabala region, and one missile in the direction of the Kurdamir region," it said.

These cities are located in the proximity of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, the ministry said.

"The target of the Armenian armed forces was the peaceful population and civilian infrastructure. There were no casualties as a result of the enemy's missile attack," the ministry said.

Furthermore, according to the ministry, the Armenian Armed Forces in Nagorno-Karabakh are using multiple launch rocket systems against positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the Fizuli district.

The Armenian Defense Ministry, in turn, has denied Baku's claims about the missile strike on the Azerbaijani cities.

"No gunfire has been opened from the territory of Armenia. This is disinformation circulated by the Azerbaijani side seeking to draw Armenia into the conflict as well," Armenian Defense Ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan told Interfax.
