SVR head's visit to Minsk not connected to events in Belarus - Peskov (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Interaction between Russia and Belarus in the Union State, including between the special services, takes place on a permanent basis and is not connected to the events in Minsk, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"Broad interaction is taking place, and it's not connected to the events in Belarus in any way; this interaction has taken place before," Peskov told reporters, responding to a question as to why the meeting between Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) head Sergei Naryshkin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was not announced earlier and what the purpose of the visit by the head of the SVR to Minsk is.

Peskov said events and contacts are not always announced in advance. He did not specify the agenda of Naryshkin's visit. "I can't tell you. These are quite sensitive areas of work and cooperation, and therefore this information cannot be accessible to the public," Peskov said.

Speaking about cooperation between the special services of Russia and Belarus, Peskov said that mechanisms of interaction on all tracks exist in the Union State. "Therefore, there is information exchange, joint events, etc., exchange of visits, exchange of contacts, and therefore, this is perfectly normal interaction in the Union State," he said.
