MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Moscow hopes for a meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers in Washington to be a success, and hopes for the United States to act in unison with Russia in the settlement of the Karabakh crisis, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"You know that the foreign ministers of both countries visited our country again. They will be meeting in Washington on the 23rd (of October). I hope very much that our American partners will act in unison with us and facilitate the settlement. We hope for the better," Putin said at a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club on Thursday.
He said that he is in close contact with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan and talks to them on the phone several times a day.
"Our foreign ministers, defense ministers, and the heads of security services are in constant contact," Putin said.
Russia sticks to a stance, which would make it possible to take advantage of the trust of both opposing sides and play a significant role as mediators in the settlement of this crisis and in making the positions closer, he said.
"I would like very much this compromise to be reached," Putin said.
