Hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh should be immediately stopped - Putin

MOSCOW. Oct 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, because this despite the Moscow agreements has yet to be reached.

"The first thing that should be done is to immediately stop the hostilities. We have actually agreed on that at the meeting in Moscow. However, this situation unfortunately couldn't have been retained. We will continue to seek this," Putin said at a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club.

For many years, Russia has been seeking and been proposing compromises for the settlement of the crisis, he said.

"We, up to every detail, up to kilometers, frankly speaking, have mapped out different corridors, and [proposed] an exchange of territories. All kinds of things were proposed to us. However, we unfortunately could not have reached this solution. All of this resulted in the current tragedy," Putin said.

He said he hopes that the hostilities will be stopped after all.
