U.S. plans fraught with new missile crisis - State Duma member

MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky has warned of the danger of a new missile crisis in light of the statement made by United States National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien on Washington's readiness to deploy its state-of-the-art hypersonic missile in Europe to deter Russia.

"Such irresponsible and politicized steps - if the U.S. actually resorts to deploying its missiles in the territory of its European allies - are fraught with a new missile crisis," Slutsky told journalists on Wednesday.

"Washington provokes instability and creates a threat to global security this way," he said.

"The White House's statement on the readiness to deploy U.S. short- and intermediate-range missiles in Europe is far from being constructive," Slutsky said.

"Only two days ago President Vladimir Putin confirmed Russia's commitment to the moratorium on the deployment of Russian missiles in the regions adjacent to European countries until U.S. shorter- and intermediate-range missiles are deployed in them, and the U.S immediately voices a more aggressive stance through an advisor to President Trump," he said.

U.S. National Security Advisor O'Brien said on Wednesday that U.S. will deploy new hypersonic missiles in Europe, if necessary, to deter Russia.
