Russian Pacific Fleet ships conduct maneuvers in Sea of Japan

VLADIVOSTOK. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Pacific Fleet's flagship, the Varyag missile carrying cruiser, and the Admiral Panteleyev large anti-submarine ship carried out joint maneuvers in the Sea of Japan in accordance with their combat training plan, the Pacific Fleet's press service said on Thursday.

"Over the course of two days, the ships performed joint tactical maneuvers and checked the reliability of their communications systems at the combat training ranges," it said.

Together with a naval air force, the ships also simulated a joint operation to repel a mock enemy air raid and practiced steps to assist a vessel in distress and ship-to-ship cargo transfers.

In addition, the crews took routine measures to ensure the ships' security during an unprotected anchorage and practiced anti-sabotage grenade-throwing.
