YEREVAN. Nov 2 (Interfax) - The Azerbaijani army on Saturday night and early on Sunday attacked Karabakh populated localities, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic's (NKR) Emergency Situations Committee said.
"In the early hours of November 1, Azerbaijan carried out airstrikes on the town of Martuni and neighboring populated localities. Many buildings have been damaged. Strikes resumed in the morning," the Emergency Situations Committee said.
At night, some villages in the Askeran district were also bombarded. "The adversary used Grad and Smerch installations, opening fire at the villages of Avetaranots and Sznek. No casualties among civilians have been reported," it said.
The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said earlier that the Armenian forces had fired at Azerbaijani positions near the state frontier.
"The Armenian armed forces have shelled the positions of Azerbaijani army units near the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border, using artillery, mortars and small arms. In the early hours of November 1, the adversary at some point opened fire on the positions of our army units located in the Tovuz, Gadabay, and Qubadli districts of Azerbaijan from different points in the Berd, Chambarak and Goris districts of Armenia," the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
