Russian warship to conduct training in Norwegian, Barents Seas

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - The large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk and the Sergei Osipov sea tanker left the Moray Firth, Northern Sea (off the UK coast) and headed to the Barents Sea, the Russian Northern Fleet said on Monday.

"The unit completed its missions in the North Atlantic and headed to its main base," the fleet said in a statement.

The military said the Severomorsk will conduct an exercise in the Norwegian and Barents Seas to practice searching for a mock enemy's submarines and to work on combat training air defense tasks.

In the Moray Firth, the Northern Fleet sailors conducted an anti-sabotage defense exercise and replenished their fuel and fresh water supplies from the tanker. The Northern Fleet also said the Russian ships had waited for a storm in the North Atlantic to end in the neutral waters of the Moray Firth.

The large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk and the Sergei Osipov tanker were in the north Atlantic following a cruise of the Arctic group of the Northern Fleet. The Severomorsk will return to its base in the first half of November, the Northern Fleet said.
