Putin demands explanation for disruption of some space programs

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged the participants in a conference dealing with the financing and development of Russia's space industry to explain why the endorsement of the programs for the development of a super-heavy-lift launch vehicle, the building of an orbiting constellation under the Sfera project, and the enhancement of the Glonass navigation system has been disrupted.

"Roscosmos has been tasked with preparing a number of new programs, including those aimed at developing a super-heavy-lift rocket system, building an orbiting constellation under the Sfera project, and further developing the Glonass system," Putin said at the conference on Monday.

"However, as far as I can see from the information presented to me, said programs have still not been endorsed. I am asking you today to explain the reasons for this delay and say when their drafting will be completed," he said.

"This work must be done as soon as possible, including a decision on the necessary volumes of budget appropriations for these programs," Putin said.
