Armenian Defense Ministry expects soonest possible prisoner swap with Baku

YEREVAN. Nov 13 (Interfax) - The Armenian Defense Ministry is actively working with the leadership of the Russian peacekeeping mission and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to exchange prisoners and the bodies of the soldiers killed in the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh within the soonest possible time, the ministry said.

"The trilateral agreement reached between the prime minister of Armenia and the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan on ceasing the fighting in Artsakh [Nagorno-Karabakh] and deploying Russian peacekeeping forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone to monitor the ceasefire makes it possible to find out the fate of the missing service members and civilians captured amid the fighting, as well as exchange bodies," it said.

The Armenian Defense Ministry stands ready to provide comprehensive assistance to the Russian peacekeeping mission, it said.

"Active work is being done with the leadership of the peacekeeping mission and ICRC representatives to develop practical mechanisms for exchanging bodies and prisoners within a brief time," it said.
