MOSCOW. Nov 13 (Interfax) - Officers of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) have taken down a network of unauthorized weapons workshops in 16 regions of the country and have seized more than 120 firearms, including automatic weapons, the FSB press center said in a statement shared with Interfax on Friday.
"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation together with the police have dismantled the criminal activities of 27 residents in 16 constituent territories of the country who have been involved in restoring the combat properties of civilian-held weapons at backstreet workshops with the aim of selling them," it said.
In all, 127 firearms of domestic and foreign origin were seized during the operation, it said.
"The operations of 17 workshops to modernize weapons were dismantled. Measures aimed at detecting and suppressing all unlawful activities related to illegal turnover and redesigning of weapons are continuing," it said.
