Armenian PM's press secretary urges Karabakh war vets not to stage rallies in support of Pashinyan

YEREVAN. Nov 18 (Interfax) - The press secretary for the Armenian prime minister, Mane Gevorkyan, has urged Karabakh volunteer war veterans not to hold rallies and other public demonstrations in support of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"I thank the volunteers who have returned from Karabakh and are expressing their support for the prime minister and the government, but we're calling for staging no public demonstrations due to martial law and the coronavirus pandemic," Gevorkyan said on Facebook.

All efforts should be toward stability in the country, she said.

As reported earlier, an opposition rally is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Freedom Square in central Yerevan on Wednesday. Armed Forces servicemen and volunteers who have returned to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh want to stage a rally in support of Pashinyan on Republic Square, where the government building is located.

Ruling parliamentary faction My Step has urged its supporters to refrain from holding a public demonstration, taking into account the martial law declared in the country, and the complicated coronavirus situation.
