YEREVAN. Nov 19 (Interfax) - New Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazyan called Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday.
The two foreign policy chiefs highlighted their mutual willingness to continue to develop Armenian-Russian allied relations in all areas, particularly as regards regional security, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
"The parties touched upon some details of the practical implementation of the trilateral agreement on Karabakh of November 10 and the activities of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Artsakh [the Armenian name for Nagorno-Karabakh]. The foreign ministers also discussed the situation in Artsakh, efforts toward normalizing the humanitarian situation, and the meeting between the OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] Minsk Group co-chairs in Moscow yesterday. They exchanged opinions on the timeline of future Armenian-Russian cooperation," the Foreign Ministry said.
Lavrov congratulated Aivazyan on his appointment, the ministry said.
Earlier on Thursday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan introduced Aivazyan to the staff of the Foreign Ministry.
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree relieving Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan of his duties on November 17.
