Handover of Aghdam district to Azerbaijan completed without incident - head of Russian peacekeepers

BAKU/AGHDAM. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Armenian forces have left the Aghdam district in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the district's handover to Azerbaijan was carried out without any incidents or provocations, Chief of Staff of the Russian peacekeeping taskforce in Nagorno-Karabakh Maj. Gen. Andrei Volkov said on Friday.

"The role of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is to ensure the security of civilians in strict conformity with the agreements, to guarantee the withdrawal of Armenian units from the territory, - they have been withdrawn now - and to ensure the organized introduction and control in the Aghdam district of units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces as they arrive here," Volkov told reporters in Aghdam.
