BAKU. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan has fully confirmed that there are no alternatives to the agreements on a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday.
"The president of Azerbaijan today has given special attention to the need for consistent, close observance of all elements of the joint trilateral statement," Lavrov told reporters after a visit to Baku.
Russia and Azerbaijan see eye-to-eye on the need to create conditions for religious and ethnic peace and co-existence in the region, he said.
Specific tracks that will promote that and will be implemented jointly with Azerbaijan and Armenia were discussed during the visit by the interagency group to Yerevan and Baku, the minister said.
The president of Azerbaijan during the talks "said in general that not everyone likes the achievement of the November 9 agreements," he said.
"We also note there are attempts to doubt these agreements, but I think these attempts will not succeed. First of all, because the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group have more than once emphasized the need to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh issue on the basis of the same principles that are now materializing in the development and implementation of the trilateral joint statement," Lavrov said.
The trilateral statement by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh was adopted in the late hours of November 9.
