Russian Northern Fleet's 2 Tu-142 aircraft fly over neutral waters of Arctic Ocean

MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Two Tupolev Tu-142 long-range antisubmarine aircraft of the Northern Fleet performed many-hour-long scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean, the press service for the fleet said on Saturday.

"The flight lasted about 12 hours. During this time, the aircraft covered the route of over 7,000 kilometers," the press service said.

The route lied between the Barents Sea and the Kara Sea and some areas of the Laptev Sea.

"During the flight, in addition to patrolling, the pilots performed the reconnaissance of the ice situation, information about which makes navigating the Northern Sea Route considerably easier," the press service said.

According to the press service the flights of the Northern Fleets' Tu-142 long-range anti-submarine aircraft were performed in strict compliance with the international regulations of the use of airspace.
