MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Units of the Russian Defense Ministry's International Mine Action Center will help demine the terrain, roads, and sites in Nagorno-Karabakh, the ministry said in a statement seen by Interfax on Monday.
"An-124, Il-76, and Tu-154 military transport planes of the Russian Aerospace Forces have airlifted specialists, hardware, weapons, and dogs of the Russian Defense Ministry's International Mine Action Center from the Chkalovsky airfield in the Moscow region to the peacekeeping operation zone in Nagorno-Karabakh," the ministry said.
According to the ministry, over 100 servicemen and 13 pieces of military and special hardware, among them Uran-6 unmanned multifunctional demining complexes, armored personnel carriers, and armored vehicles, have arrived at Yerevan airfields.
The military convoys will travel from Yerevan to Stepanakert via Goris and, upon their arrival in the designated area, will begin to accomplish missions of engineering reconnaissance, demining of the terrain, roads, and sites, and neutralizing of explosive devices in Nagorno-Karabakh areas most affected by the conflict using mine detection details and unmanned complexes.
"Specialists of the Russian Defense Ministry's International Mine Action Center will be attached to the peacekeeping command center that is being deployed by the Russian Defense Ministry," the statement said.
