MINSK. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Nearly 350 protesters detained in the course of Sunday protests in Belarus are now awaiting court hearings in detention facilities, Belarusian Interior Ministry spokesperson Olga Chemodanova said on Telegram on Monday.
"A total of 345 persons were incarcerated across the country yesterday for violating mass event regulations; they will be awaiting the hearing of their administrative cases in detention facilities," Chemodanova said.
On November 22, "relevant measures were taken to maintain order in the country and to ensure public security in the venues of unsanctioned events," she said.
"Groups of protesters gathered in various Minsk districts. Citizens were repeatedly warned about the need to obey the law and traffic regulations but some of them walked on roads and blocked traffic. Some were aggressive and drunk. The most active breakers of public peace who disobeyed the police were detained, including through the use of special means," Chemodanova said.
"The numerous calls for joining the protests made by destructive Telegram channels did not evoke the anticipated support from the population in the republic's regions except in the capital," she said.
According to the Viasna human rights center unregistered in Belarus, 389 protesters were detained in Belarus on Sunday.
