MOSCOW. Nov 24 (Interfax) - The foreign engines previously installed on Russian Navy ships are now being repaired and serviced in Russia, Deputy General Director of the United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) Viktor Polyakov said.
"A UEC enterprise, jointly with partner-companies and subsidiaries, is participating in keeping operational the foreign-made imported units which were installed on our Navy ships," Polyakov told journalists on Tuesday.
Now the plant manufactures the parts needed for repairing such engines and provides repairs and maintenance, he said.
It was reported earlier that in 2014, Russia stopped receiving warship parts from Ukrainian suppliers.
In 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a largescale import-substitution project: the production of ship gas turbines in Russia. At the time, in the presence of the head of state at a UEC enterprise, testing of the M-35R-1 gas turbine with the M-70FRU-2 engine for naval programs began.
