Russia may have to withdraw from ISS project ahead of time due to high costs - Energia Corp

MOSCOW. Nov 26 (Interfax) - Specialists from the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation believe that the high cost of International Space Station (ISS) operation after 2025 will prevent the station from being properly used and the project will have to be terminated ahead of schedule, Energia Rocket and Space Corporation Deputy General Director Vladimir Solovyov said.

"In the opinion of Energia Corporation, the cost of funding [after 2025], which is estimated at approximately 10-15 billion rubles, is too high. It is necessary to reconsider the period of participation in the program and to focus on programs of orbital stations," Solovyov said at the Thursday meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Council on Space Research.
