MINSK. Nov 26 (Interfax) - Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei has thanked Russian partners for their support in the post-election period.
"It is with satisfaction that I note Russia's support in the post-election period in our country amid the aggressive external pressure on the Belarusian leadership and attempts to destabilize the situation here," Makei told reporters on Thursday.
"We will continue to firmly oppose external interference in the internal affairs of Belarus, to prevent the forcing of unilateral mediation services of specific Western states and international structures, and also to stop any other support of the anti-constitutional actions [in Belarus], no matter who initiates it," the Belarusian minister said.
"The strong support from the Russian side in the human rights sphere on the UN and OSCE sites is very important" for Minsk, Makei said. "We hope for further comprehensive support from the Russian side of Belarus's initiatives and on strengthening the integration of the EAEU and the CIS," he said.
The current meeting "is being held amid an aggravating crisis of trust in the world," Makei said. "Military-political tensions persist in the European region. The U.S. withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty, their positon on the treaty on strategic offensive weapons and some other steps do not promote trust and mutual understanding," he said.
In this situation, the changing geopolitical reality requires from international organizations timely adaptation to the new situation and reaction to new security challenges, Makei said. "That fully applies to the CSTO. I hope we will have a detailed discussion on all issues at the CSTO summit in December 2020," the Belarusian foreign minister said.
He also said his country ranks fourth among Russia's largest foreign trade partners. "To us, Russia is the main foreign trade partner," the minister said.
