YEREVAN. Nov 27 (Interfax) - The opposition forces are looking to seize power in Armenia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Groups that are well-known in Armenia, which are acting in parallel to the wishes of the external forces, are working hard to inflame our people's painful points. There are people in Armenia and outside of Armenia who are trying to create an illusion that there is no administration in the country, to cause chaos, they want to take the war to Armenia, to put the country in a free fall mode and thus ensure their return," Pashinyan said in his televised address to the people.
The government of Armenia will not let that happen, he said.
"We will not let that [happen], not because we are holding on to power, but because the people don't want that. They [the opposition] want to come to power on the blood, but we will not let that happen, the law enforcement agencies will not let that happen and they fully control the situation," Pashinyan said.
In the situation where a trilateral statement on Karabakh was signed, "there was no other option," he said.
"Any other option would have been much worse. But the forces that criticize us now don't say if they are ready to give up this agreement and what will happen after that. Today, there are urgent issues, of which the most important one is to ensure security inside and around Armenia. That requires the full implementation of the November 9 statement," Pashinyan said.
Pashinyan said work on the demarcation of the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan has started and the statements "by some circles in Armenia" saying that the Armenian authorities "have surrendered the territories in the Gegharkunik province of Armenia are false."
"The process envisages that the Armenian troops in Gegharkunik [eastern Armenia, which borders on the Kalbajar district] should be placed on the borders of the Armenian SSR. The border is specified with GPS coordinates. In accordance with these borders, half of the Sotk gold mine is located on the territory of Azerbaijan," the Armenian prime minister said.
Opposition parties have held protests in Yerevan since November 10 demanding the resignation of the prime minister following the adoption by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of a statement on a ceasefire and the installation of peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, and also on the transfer to Azerbaijan of some territories in the region.
