MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry has criticized German Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer's call for holding disarmament talks with Russia from a position of strength.
"We have to remind Mrs. Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer that the good stance of German foreign policy proposed by her in Bundestag several days ago and aimed to carry out dialogue from a position of strength already led to tragic consequences for the entire world, Germany, and the German people in the 20th century," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Friday.
The Russian Defense Ministry has paid attention to the recent statement by the German defense minister in Bundestag, he said.
"We had taken our time to prepare an answer, as we were hoping sober-minded politicians in Germany would correct the minister themselves, being aware of the consequences of similar calls made in the past. Alas, that did not happen," Konashenkov said.
"We have to say this is not the first time the statements made by certain politicians in the Federal Republic of Germany in regard to the establishment of a dialogue with Russia resemble attempts of a primary school student to compensate the lack of knowledge of the subject with the loudness of absurd declarations. Mrs. Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer took the position of the German defense minister a short time ago. But, just like her predecessor, she is already demonstrating her inability to offer something significant for the real strengthening of security in Europe," Konashenkov said.
