No decision yet on Russian requests for legal assistance in Navalny case - German Justice Ministry

BERLIN. Nov 27 (Interfax) - A decision on Russia's requests for legal assistance in the case involving the alleged poisoning of Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny has not been made yet, spokesperson for the German Ministry of Justice Maximilian Kall said, adding that the requests are being processed.

"Decisions on the four requests for the provision of legal assistance have not been made yet. They are currently being processed," Kall told Interfax on Friday.

At the same time, "requests for legal assistance regarding personal information and state of health can only be granted with the citizen's consent," he said.

"The Federal Ministry of Justice has responded to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office. We said that a formal public investigation in Russia has to be a precondition for legal assistance," Kall said.

German justice officials are in constant contact with the Russian Prosecutor General's Office regarding the matter, he said.
