MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - Medical taskforce units have opened a field hospital in Stepanakert, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
"Pneumoframed modules have been deployed. Specialists of the medical taskforce will provide medical aid to the peacekeeping contingent and the population of Nagorno-Karabakh. The medical taskforce is ready to admit up to 40 patients to its facilities," the statement said.
The medical taskforce performed a 300-kilometer march on Sunday as part of the convoy traveling from Yerevan to Stepanakert. The convoy was accompanied by patrols of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and the military police, the ministry said.
The first unit of the medical taskforce consists of over 60 specialists, including military surgeons, intensivists, general practitioners, and epidemiologists.
Earlier this month, military medics were airlifted to Armenia from Khabarovsk by Ilyushin Il-76 military transport planes.
In all, 122 servicemen, 54 motor and special vehicles, and 66 tonnes of supplies will be transported from the Eastern Military District to Nagorno-Karabakh in the course of deployment of the medical taskforce.
