KHABAROVSK. Dec 1 (Interfax) - Units of S-300V4 air defense missile systems of Russia's Eastern Military District have been put on combat duty to ensure air defense of the Kuril Islands, the Eastern Military District's press service reported on Tuesday.
"Hero of Russia Col. Gen. Gennady Zhidko, commander of the Eastern Military District's forces, personally inspected [the units'] preparedness for combat duty. He highly praised cohesion between the units and forces on duty during an exercise aimed at practicing actions upon being alerted of a violation of Russia's air boundaries," it said.
The S-300V4 is a modern highly-mobile air defense missile system designed to protect important sites from strikes of ballistic and aerodynamic weapon systems.
