MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Russia is concerned about external interference in Belarusian internal affairs and hopes that people in Belarus will be able to resolve all domestic political problems unaided, President Vladimir Putin said.
"External interference - financing, information support, political support, etc. - is a source of concern. People should be given the chance to sort our matters of interest on their own," Putin said at the virtual session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Collective Security Council.
External interference is always explained with good intentions, Putin said. "But, as you know, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. This is the result of good intentions and interference in affairs of other states," he said.
"I very much hope that people in Belarus will display a sufficient degree of political maturity in order to establish dialogue with all political forces in a calm manner devoid of any abrupt moves, and to resolve domestic problems unaided, without any external pressure or interference," Putin said.
Putin said he "has no doubt this can be done, in particular, given the political experience of the Belarusian president."
"It is quite common that various movements and conflicts emerge" in the course of election campaigns, this is a normal situation, but there must be no external interference, Putin said.
