Tehran has still not provided Kyiv with materials, evidence on downing of passenger plane - Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office

KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian investigative authorities have still not received the documents and evidence promised by Iran as concerns the crash of Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) Flight 752 near Tehran on January 8, Ukrainian Deputy Prosecutor General Gyunduz Mamedov said at a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Ukraine Manouchehr Moradi.

"The inquiry in Ukraine and in Iran is exploring different paths now, even though both parties are interested in an unbiased investigation into the downing of the Ukrainian plane. And the inappropriate implementation of the agreements reached doesn't enable us so far to name the next date of bilateral negotiations," the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office quoted Mamedov as saying.

A month and a half has passed since the last round of negotiations in Tehran in October, he said.

"It makes no sense to hold negotiations just for the sake of it; it is efficient cooperation and a result that matter. And we should give answers as soon as possible; after all, January will mark one year from the moment of the crash," he said.

The meeting took place at Iran's proposal.

None of the 167 passengers and nine crewmembers on board survived. The crash killed 11 citizens of Ukraine (including nine crewmembers), 82 citizens of Iran, 63 citizens of Canada, ten citizens of Sweden, four of Afghanistan, and three each of Germany and the United Kingdom.

The Iranian authorities admitted on January 11 that the Boeing was downed by the Iranian military by mistake.

Commander of the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Amir Ali Hajizadeh later claimed full responsibility for the Ukrainian plane crash.

Negotiations concerning the payment of compensation by Iran for the downing of the Ukrainian airliner were held in Kyiv at the end of July.

Ukraine and Iran completed the second round of the negotiations concerning the crash on October 20.
