Over 40 terror attacks prevented in Russia in 2020 - NAC (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - Security services did not allow any terror attacks to happen in Russia this year, Federal Security Service (FSB) Director, National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) Chairman Alexander Bortnikov said at the NAC meeting.

"Bortnikov noted that the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies prevented any terror attacks from happening this year. Sixty-one terrorist crimes, including 41 terror attacks, were prevented at the plotting stage," NAC said in a statement after the meeting.

The activity of 55 sleeper cells of international terrorist organizations was stopped in 2020, NAC said.

"Besides, 149 foreign citizens involved in extremist and terrorist activity were barred from entering the Russian Federation," the NAC information center said.

Efficient collaboration between the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) and law enforcement agencies allowed restricting access to over 66,500 extremist materials on the Internet and identifying 110 foreign citizens who distributed such materials.
