Russian Defense Ministry reports return of over 36,000 refugees to Nagorno-Karabakh

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - More than 36,000 refugees have returned home in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"Over the past day, another 1,136 persons have returned from the territory of Armenia to places of their former residence. The safe return of over 36,000 refugees has been ensured over the period of the peacekeeping operation," Konashenkov said at a press briefing on Tuesday.

The ceasefire is being implemented throughout the contact line, he said.

Two power line pillars and over 1.5 kilometers of power lines have been repaired in the past 24 hours, the spokesman said.

"Over the past day, servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping forces cleared about five hectares of land and 1.5 kilometers of roads, and found and destroyed 444 explosive devices," Konashenkov said.

In all, sappers have demined over 66 hectares of land, more than 23 kilometers of roads, and 129 homes and social facilities; they also found and defused over 4,500 explosive devices, he said.
