Almost 1,500 law enforcement officers tried on corruption counts in 2020 - Russian Investigative Committee

MOSCOW. Dec 9 (Interfax) - Over 1,400 law enforcement officers and nearly 700 servicemen were tried on corruption counts in 2020, the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement on Wednesday.

"There were 2,804 bribe givers and lawyers without the status of officials, 1,434 law enforcement officers, 682 servicemen, 457 local self-government officials, 302 employees of education and science establishments, and 201 medical workers among persons tried on corruption counts," the statement said.

Most criminal cases referred to courts were related to bribe giving (22.4%), bribe taking (17%), fraud (16,3%), and misappropriation or embezzlement (7.5%), it said.

Upon the completion of criminal proceedings in 2020, 2.353 billion rubles worth of assets, cash, and valuables were voluntarily compensated or impounded, and a freeze was put on 8.137 billion rubles worth of assets.
