MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax) - Two explosions were set off near the Federal Security Service (FSB) office in the town of Uchkeken in Karachayevo-Cherkessia on Friday morning, an informed source told Interfax.
"According to the preliminary information, the first explosion occurred at about 7 a.m. - a small unidentified explosive device was blown up, but no one was hurt. Later on, a man ran towards a group of law enforcement officers working on the site at around noon and blew himself up," the source said.
According to the source, six people needed medical assistance.
"After the explosion, medical assistance was sought by six people, including law enforcement officers and pedestrians who were passing by the explosion scene," the source said, adding that the patients sustained fragmentation injuries.
A source told Interfax earlier that two people were injured as a result of the explosion, and the man who blew himself up died.
The incident scene is cordoned off, and operative and investigative services are arriving there, the source said.
According to the source, the man who blew himself up near the FSB office in the town of Uchkekek in Karachayevo-Cherkessia might have been a member of an extremist group.
"The preliminary information indicates that the man shared the viewpoint of extremist groups and gangs. Before the explosion happened, he approached a group of law enforcers standing at the entrance to the FSB office, shouted 'Allah Akbar', and blew himself up," the source said
