Russian Defense Ministry reports successful test-launch of Tsirkon hypersonic missile

MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax) - The Russian military has test-fired a Tsirkon hypersonic missile from the Admiral Gorshkov frigate in the White Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

"The Admiral Gorshkov, the lead frigate of Project 22350, test-fired a Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missile from the White Sea at a coastal target placed at the Chizha range in the Arkhangelsk region. The missile was fired in the course of trials of new weapon systems," the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the Tsirkon missile successfully hit the coastal target at a distance exceeding 350 kilometers.

"The missile traveled at a speed higher than Mach 8," the ministry said.
