Russian fighter intercepts U.S. reconnaissance plane over Bering Sea (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax) - A Russian MiG-31 fighter has intercepted a United States reconnaissance aircraft over the Bering Sea, the Russian National Defense Control Center reported on Friday.

"The crew of the Russian fighter identified the aerial target as an RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft of the U.S. Air Force and shadowed it over the water territory," it said.

The marine boundary between Russia and the U.S. passes through the Bering Sea.

"After the foreign plane turned away from the Russian border, the Russian fighter safely returned to its home airfield," it said.

The MiG-31 belongs to the Pacific Fleet's air defense forces on duty.

"The flight of the Russian fighter strictly complied with the international rules for the use of airspace. No violation of the Russian Federation's state border was allowed," the center said.
