Russia to conduct MAKS 2021 air show despite coronavirus - organizers

MOSCOW. Dec 11 (Interfax) - The international air show MAKS scheduled for July 2021 will go ahead as planned, its organizers said.

"In 2020, it was decided to cancel the Farnborough Airshow, and towards the end of the year a verdict also was announced on the world's largest air show, at Le Bourget: the event has been removed from the 2021 exhibition calendar. But the international aerospace show MAKS, held in Zhukovsky, Moscow region, will go ahead as scheduled," the event's organizer, Aviasalon, stated.

It was reported that the MAKS 2021 will be held in Zhukovsky, near Moscow, on July 20-25.

"MAKS promises to become the most significant event of the aerospace industry in the 2021 exhibition calendar, in part due to competitors quitting race," the organizers said.

By now, Aviasalon has received over 110 applications for participation and leading Russian aircraft makers and some foreign companies have confirmed their participation. In particular, Brazil's Embraer, the world's biggest maker of regional jets, is planning to exhibit life-size mock-ups at the show.

There will also be a number of firsts at the show, the organizer said.

"For the first time, the medium-haul passenger plane MC-21-310 with Russian PD-14 engines, will be demonstrated. Furthermore, visitors will for the first time see the regional turboprop [Ilyushin] Il-114-300 and the light military transport Il-112V [aircraft]. Finally, the Urals Civil Aviation Plant is preparing a big presentation of its LMS-901 aircraft, a successor to the legendary [Antonov] An-2. In keeping with the spirit of the time, several Russian developers will showcase new unmanned aerial vehicles, both civilian and military," the statement said.

The show, which usually attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, will be held in accordance with the recommendations of the Russian consumer rights watchdog Rospotrebnadzor and the international experience of hosting major events during a pandemic, Aviasalon said.
