Situation in Karabakh's Hadrut region back to normal - Russian commander

MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh's Hadrut region has returned to normal after the interference of Russian peacekeepers, Commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent Lieut. Gen. Rustam Muradov said.

"The ceasefire was violated in the vicinity of the settlements of Khtsaberd and Khin Takher in the Hadrut region on December 11, but it was suppressed by the Russian peacekeeping contingent. At present, the situation in this area has returned to normal," he said at a press briefing.

"Russian peacekeepers are constantly monitoring the situation and maintaining interaction with representatives of the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides," Muradov said.

Earlier in the day, the Armenian Defense Ministry said that Azerbaijani forces had attacked a post of the army of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the Hadrut district. The Azerbaijani side in turn accused the Armenian military of staging an armed provocation. Yerevan denied the allegations.

Hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh lasted from September 27 to November 9. Leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 9 adopted a statement on a complete ceasefire in the conflict zone starting at 00:00 Moscow time on November 10.
