Ceasefire being observed along entire contact line in Karabakh - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - Russian peacekeepers do not record any violations of ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh on Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Russian peacekeepers are conducting round-the-clock monitoring of the situation and supervising the observance of the ceasefire at 23 observation posts. The ceasefire is being observed along the entire contact line," the ministry said in its official bulletin.

Russian peacekeepers recorded a violation of the ceasefire in the Gadrut region on December 11, the Defense Ministry said.

"Russian peacekeepers prevented the possibility of further exacerbation of the situation by their actions," the statement said.

As many as 634 refugees returned to Nagorno-Karabakh over the past 24 hours, in total, 38,341 people came back to the region, the ministry said. The Russian peacekeeping contingent ensures the safe return of people to their permanent homes, provides humanitarian assistance, and restores civilian infrastructure.

The Armenian Defense Ministry has earlier reported the Azerbaijani army attack on an army checkpoint of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the Hadrut region. In turn, Azerbaijan accused the Armenian troops of staging an armed provocation. Yerevan denies these accusations.

The hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh were carried out from September 27 to November 9. Late at night on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia signed a trilateral statement to declare a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed to Nagorno-Karabakh.
