Armenian, Russian defense ministers discuss Nagorno-Karabakh truce violations

YEREVAN. Dec 14 (Interfax) - Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu have discussed the truce violations that took place in Nagorno-Karabakh's Hadrut district on Saturday, the press service for the Armenian Defense Ministry reported on Sunday.

According to the Armenian side, having concentrated extra personnel, military equipment and heavy artillery in violation of the provisions of the Trilateral Statement of November 9, the Azerbaijani army on December 12 attacked the villages of Khin Taher (Kehnya Taglar) and Khtsaberd in the Hadrut district.

After an armed clash that lasted several hours, Azerbaijani forces broke into the village of Kehnya Taglar (Khin Taher) and approached Khtsaberd, the Armenian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"As a result of the resumption of hostilities, the Armenian side has six people injured, and the adversary has lost several soldiers killed and injured. The actions of the Azerbaijani side were immediately discussed with the leadership of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Karabakh. This problem was discussed at the meeting between the defense minister, who is on a working visit to Moscow and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu," it said.

Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian military commanders are continuing talks in the Hadrut region in a bid to find a solution to the situation and make the opposing sides return to initial positions, the Armenian Defense Ministry said.

As reported on Saturday, Harutyunyan went on a working visit to Russia.

Harutyunyan was appointed the Armenian defense minister in late November. This is his first visit abroad since he took office.
