Russian strategic sub performs simulated firing of 4 ballistic missiles outside Arkhangelsk - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - The Vladimir Monomakh strategic submarine of the Russian Pacific Fleet performed a simulated multiple launch of four Bulava ballistic missiles from the Sea of Okhotsk on Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The firing in salvo was performed from the underwater position in the waters of the Sea of Okhotsk at the Chizha range in the Arkhangelsk region. The flight of the Bulava ballistic missiles was performed as planned. According to verified objective monitoring data, the warheads of the missiles successfully landed at the designated area of Chizha's tactical field," the ministry said.

The Vladimir Monomakh performed a firing in salvo with four intercontinental ballistic missiles for the first time. The firing was performed as part of the routine training measures, the Defense Ministry said.

"The flight of the Bulava ballistic missiles was performed as planned. According to verified objective monitoring data, the warheads of the missiles successfully landed at the designated area of Chizha's tactical field," the ministry said.

The Vladimir Monomakh is a Russian strategic nuclear submarine belonging to the fourth-generation Project 955 Borei-class submarines. Its main weapon is 16 R-30 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The R30 3M30 Bulava (also known as RSM-56 in international treaties, NATO code name SS-NX-30) is a Russian three-stage solid-fuel missile built for prospective nuclear-powered strategic submarines of the Project 955 Borei.

The missile can carry up to ten hypersonic individually maneuvering targeting nuclear warheads with variable altitudes and trajectories destroying targets at a radius of up to 8,000 kilometers. Bulava will be the core of the prospective formation of Russia's Strategic Nuclear Forces in the period until 2040-2045.
